During the Middle Ages in Europe, palmistry entered a period of decline, often associated with witchcraft and banned by the church. However, interest in the art form resurged during the Renaissance, as scholars revisited the classical texts. By the 17th century, books on the subject began to appear, such as 'Chirologia' by John Bulwer. The practice continued to develop throughout the centuries, reaching a peak in popularity with the spiritualism movement of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Modern Views on Palmistry

Today, palmistry is often viewed as a combination of ancient beliefs and modern psychological insights. Many practitioners relate the lines and features of the hands to emotional and mental states, rather than fortuning telling as was traditionally done. It has expanded to incorporate a holistic view of the person, linking palmistry to broader life conditions such as health, well-being, and personal relationships. Though skepticism remains, many find value in the reflective process it provides.

The practice of palmistry continues to be a global phenomenon, with its techniques and interpretations varying across different cultures. In some cultures, palm reading is a casual activity, performed at gatherings and social events, while in others, it is taken more seriously, often consulted alongside other forms of divination. With the dawn of the digital age, palmistry has found new avenues, including online readings and compatibility analyses, aligning it with the technological expectations of the 21st century.
